Curriculum

At Clarence High School, the timetable and courses available are focused solely around our children and young people. Every pupil has an individual personalised curriculum, we feel this is the best way to help our learners gain the best results and education that we can provide.

We fully utilise our extensive resources to ensure equal access and the highest level of provision for all of our children and young people. We are fortunate to have a wide variety of facilities that equal and even surpass a typical main stream environment and our staff are highly experienced in helping children and young people with a range of SEBD and other complex difficulties.

Clarence High School has a range of specialist facilities that help ensure our children and young people’s futures. Children and young people have access to a full range of experiences from traditional classroom environments, from a fully fitted science lab to a separate wing, hosting the nurture and therapies departments with their own catering areas and specialist rooms.

We have the fortune to have on site our own professionally developed vocational areas including a performing arts theatre, a hair and beauty salon, an engineering department and a fitness studio in our full sized sports hall. We have a full computer and network system, which includes full interactive whiteboards in every classroom, computers in each of the rooms and a high speed fibre broadband connection across the site.

Our fully personalised curriculum enables our children and young people to realise their potential. We cater for the full National Curriculum and a Nurture Curriculum at Key Stages – 2, 3, 4 and 5. As well as moving through the National Curriculum, our learners are able to access GCSE’s, Entry Levels and BTEC Qualification at Level 1, 2 and 3 in a range of subjects. We are able to supplement our vast array of potential qualifications with the addition of other accredited awards such as ASDAN.

We help our children and young people focus and develop their skills for their future; we are able to tailor their personalised curriculum with work experience and college placements. Our staff are fully trained in their subject specialisms and we have our own BTEC accredited assessors and Lead Internal Verifiers for the courses we offer.

Given our teaching staffs’ expertise, we are able to create individual and very much personalised timetables, we are able to offer not only the same qualifications as a mainstream school, but are able to widen the options and increase the levels that are on offer to meet the individual’s needs. Our Vocational Team is dedicated to help build up an individual transition programme into work and college. All of our staff work around a child’s needs to make sure their educational life is enriched, supported and enjoyable.
